FatherHood Friday Quickie: Australia Update

Friday, February 26th, 2010

With my new three on, three off schedule at work, it gets hard to sit down and pound something out for certain days. Since I’m in the middle of the three on cycle, I’m furiously typing this just before leaving for work. I just had to give an update on Kat’s trip to Australia with People to People.

This Episode of Sesame Street Is Brought To You By The Letter I … Phone?

Before I blow full steam ahead on this post, I want to take you back in time. Through the magic of YouTube, please go back with me to the 1970′s, and a very familiar television show opening. I bet you can sing along…

Now, did you notice anything? Kids? Ok. A big yellow 7 year old bird? Good! Notice anything else? Were the kids outside?! AND they were PLAYING!!!! Keep this in mind as I continue to rant…

Yesterday, Christina Warren of Mashable.com wrote a piece praising Sesame Street and their Elmo iPhone app. Take a look:

A Little Fatherly Randomness…

This post brought to you by Dad-Blogs' FatherHood Friday. Be sure to swing by for all the other great Dads and Moms who love to share their lives online!

I’ve spent all morning working on today’s post, well, the bits of the morning where I wasn’t taking The Teenager to school. Then there were the times I was holding the baby, which is a chore, let me tell you. Every time I hold that warm little snuggly body against me I can’t help thinking that I’d much rather be in front of my glaring blank white computer screen instead of throwing the baby in to the air and hearing his sweet, genuine giggle as I tickle under his ribs with my nose. Who wants that? ;)

It Takes A Smallville To Raise A Superman

fatherfridayThis post is brought to you courtesy of Dad-Blogs‘ FatherHood Friday. The theme this week is ‘TV Dads’. Click on the image to the left to read other great daddy and mommy bloggers talk about their favorite TV dads. Some of the bloggers may have gone rogue and written about something else that was on their minds. Friggin’ rebels…

My favorite TV dad has been ‘dead’ for three seasons. ‘Dead’ in quotes because: a) The actor that portrayed him his very much alive, and b) It’s a show based on a comic book, and who stays dead in a comic book?

Time Is (Ir)Relevant

He looks down at his sleeping son. Although the boy is only six weeks old, the father feels like he didn’t know what life was before the child was born. Was there a time when this small angel didn’t exist? The father couldn’t imagine a life without his son. It seems he can’t remember what his life was before.

The father cherishes his son in that moment, trying to commit every detail to memory. Even the blemishes, even the flaky cradle cap, is precious to the father.

A flash.

Vertigo.

What I’ve Been Up To (Or, Don’t Neglect Your FAMILY!)

Friday, September 18th, 2009

fatherfridayFatherHood Friday is here again, and I’ve been so busy that I had a hard time coming up with a topic for today. So why not write about how busy I am?! I have good news and bad news. I always like to start with the bad and then cheer up. The bad news is, I’ve been working crazy long hours lately for no additional pay. Really? How much sense does that make? The good news is, starting Sept. 26, I go on a three-day-on, three-day-off schedule. (Applause.) In an effort to get the store ready for such a structure, naturally, there’s some amount of preparation involved. So, in the days and weeks leading up to this change, there have been some crazy long days, which in turn lead to the wife saying things like, ‘You’re son’s not going to know you.’ To which I reply, ‘Hang in there, it’ll all be better soon…’ And it should be. I’ve been working hard to make this change positive for work and my home. But will sacrificing the here and now be worth it?

FatherHood Friday: Back To School Part 2

Friday, September 4th, 2009

fatherfridaySo here’s the thing: last week I twisted the theme of Back to School from Dad-Blogs‘ weekly FatherHood Friday to my own ends, promising to have a more traditional Back to School post this week. I planned on blogging about preparing the teenager for school this year, but the high school is going through renovations and school doesn’t actually start for her until the 21st!

Registration is on the 10th, so even though Wal-Mart is already pushing the last of the school supplies out the door, it hasn’t even sunk in for me that it’s back to school time at all!

The Greatest Show In Wonderland

Although I do my best to participate in FatherHood Friday each week, it’s been a while since I posted a Fiction Friday post. Inspired by one of Kat’s sketches, I decided to do just that…

My Big Family Anouncement…

Friday, July 10th, 2009

fatherfridayI got home from a late night at work tonight, and there came a moment when the entire family was in the same room at the same time. Individual members of the family started announcing things that they were going to do: bits of nighttime rituals. ‘I’m taking a quick shower’, etc.

‘Wait!’ I exclaimed. ‘Since everyone is here, I’d like to announce a decision I’ve made!’

The family looked at me expectantly. I had thought about it all day. If I were to act, it had to be soon.

Calli can help you conquer the world!

Calli can help you conquer the world!

Yesterday I was stressed at work. The day before that, I was stressed at work. Last week: yeah, more stress. I don’t want to get up in the morning. I don’t blog but once a week (FatherHood Friday, as seen at dad-blogs.com! Be sure to check out all the cool moms and dads who selflessly share the lives of their families for your entertainment and delight!) I can hardly take making a decision anymore, because somehow it’ll be wrong to someone.
