Are you a dad on the go? Check out dadgear.com!

Saturday, January 31st, 2009

My wife and I were in the waiting room of the doctor’s office the other day. We were flipping through the magazines when an ad caught my eye. It had a picture of a man with some kind of satchel or portfolio looking bag flung over his shoulder. The ad was for a site called dadgear.com. The portfolio was a diaper bag.

The first chance I got, I checked out dadgear.com and was surprised by the variety of diaper bags for dads! You can get your choice of designs, sports teams, etc. on a diaper bag that you wouldn’t be ashamed to be seen in public with. (It would sure beat the ‘chococat’ bag I currently use!) They even have diaper vests and jackets!

Why I Hate Neil Gaiman

Thursday, January 29th, 2009

I do. I hate Neil Gaiman. I hate him with the fiery passion of a thousand suns. I hate him because he does things with words that I only wish on falling stars and birthday candles that I could do. I hate him because ‘The Graveyard Book‘ is shaping up to be my favorite of anything I’ve read by Mr. Gaiman, and I already had a favorite Neil Gaiman book. He has once again upset my understanding of the universe, and I do not appreciate that.

Howefitz Comes Out Of Exile With A Somewhat Fresh Start

As some of you who follow my twitter updates and Facebook status updates know, I’ve been using my AT&T cell phone as my modem. I had what was advertised as an unlimited tethering package. So when I recently moved, I didn’t worry about setting up cable TV, because I could stream my favorite shows online! I’d hook up the laptop to my TV, and we’d catch up with Heroes, Pushing Daisies, Daily Show, etc.

Incidentally, Hulu is my current favorite site to stream television shows, though Joost has a lot of good stuff too.

My Friend Derek Needs Your Help!

Sunday, January 11th, 2009

My friend Derek Wallace, of organicreform.org needs your help. I’ll let him explain, from his blog:

Well, we had a good run, I suppose…

“The Road to Sustainability” (my 17-minute documentary about a cross-country road trip in a waste vegetable oil car) was online for just over a year, racked up a few thousand views and even got shown at the Rochester Institute of Technology.

But now, on the eve of my 30th birthday, I get this very disappointing message in my in-box…

Where Do Ideas Come From?

Monday, January 5th, 2009

I’ve been experiencing a bit of the old writer’s block lately. In search of ideas, I remembered a writing seminar I went to a couple of years ago that was hosted by Orson Scott Card. He said that his favorite response he’d heard from a writer when asked ‘Where do you get your ideas?’ was from Harlan Ellison, who would reply, ‘From you, that’s why you don’t have any!’

So, in that spirit, here are a few quotes that I’ve dug up about ideas and the aquiring of them:
