So, What The Eff CAN I Feed My Kids?

Wednesday, October 5th, 2011

Alright. Here it is. As promised, if not a little late: the food rant.

As a father of 3, I find myself increasingly interested in foods that are good for you. Especially when little bodies and minds are concerned, you want to find the best food. However, this gets increasingly frustrating when you look at some of the current medical findings. Let’s look at some favorite kids’ foods, shall we?

Hot Dogs, also bacon.

Lion King 3D!

Monday, September 26th, 2011

Image shamelessly stolen from Cartoon Brew.

A bit of a cheat today, since I spent a good portion of my lunch break researching the listeria outbreak from cow poo on cantaloupe.  (That will more than likely be tomorrow’s topic because it really burns me up!)

That being said, Saturday I took the kids to see The Lion King in 3D! My kids sat through (nearly) the entire thing – with glasses on! If it wasn’t for a very stinky diaper around the time that Rafiki realizes Simba is still alive, we probably would have made it completely through.

Howefitz, Where Ya Been?

Friday, September 23rd, 2011

I read this this morning, and I got very nervous:

Writer’s block isn’t hard to cure.

Just write poorly. Continue to write poorly, in public, until you can write better.

I believe that everyone should write in public. Get a blog. Or use Squidoo or Tumblr or a microblogging site. Use an alias if you like. Turn off comments, certainly–you don’t need more criticism, you need more writing.

Do it every day. Every single day. Not a diary, not fiction, but analysis. Clear, crisp, honest writing about what you see in the world. Or want to see. Or teach (in writing). Tell us how to do something.

Today’s The Day!!!

Wednesday, June 16th, 2010

Last minute packing, planning the route to the airport through Mapquest, Google, and the GPS, (because that’s how good my sense of direction is…) I’m almost ready to get in the car and take Kat to the airport for an excursion that she will never forget.

Today’s the day that Kat leaves for Australia.

I’m so jealous I could burst…

No Complaints. No Excuses: Redefined

Wednesday, April 7th, 2010

It’s been a month since my last post on my 21 Day No Complaints, No Excuses experiment, so I thought you might like an update.

According to the ticker on my desktop that I got from acomplaintfreeworld.org, I’ve gone ten days now without complaining or making an excuse. That’s my longest record yet. (Remember, it takes 21 days to form a habit, I’m nearly half-way there!) How am I doing it? By redefining what a complaint is. ;)

Here are some things that I’ve thought about when it comes to defining what a complaint really is. Much of this has come from feedback here, on twitter, and facebook…

Grab your 3D glasses, It’s Fatherhood Friday!!!

Friday, November 20th, 2009

I have always loved 3D images. I spent countless hours as a child staring through my ViewMaster and marveling at the wonderful images that I felt like I could reach in and grab. I was disappointed when I bought a ViewMaster projector at a garage sale, only to find out that it only projected through one image, creating a very flat clay Bambi on my wall. If I wanted 2D images on my wall, I could have gotten a poster…

Living In Kitchens

Thursday, October 29th, 2009

I was doing my usual ‘reading blogs on the internet’ thing, when something, who knows what, landed me at Amanda Palmer‘s blog. I’ve only recently discovered her music, and have to admit I’ve become heavily addicted to it (when the kids aren’t in the car, her lyrics can get a little rough).

If you don’t know Amanda Palmer, she’s the voice behind the Dresden Dolls, and the girlfriend of a little-known author named Neil Gaiman

The Power Of The Positive

Friday, March 13th, 2009

fatherfridayThe other day I was reading a blog post over at johnchow.com entitled, ‘You Are Already Rich‘. It got me to counting my blessings and really thinking about the good in my life.

In posts such as last Friday’s ‘Fatherhood Friday‘ post that I called ‘…And They All Lived Happily Ever After…‘, I’ve talked of my family and all the blessings that they bring to my life.

Then I thought of other blessings:

The Dragon Hunters crew look for the 'World Gobbler' as their planet crumbles around them.

It seems that it’s always on the weekend that I post about children’s entertainment. That’s probably because that’s when we generally watch movies!

Last night’s selection was ‘Dragon Hunters‘, a French computer generated feature film originally titled ‘Chasseurs De Dragons’.

How The Strong Survive: Dream!

Monday, February 2nd, 2009

I was at the swimming pool in the Avon Rec Center with Calli the other day, when I heard a boy of about seven or eight years old talking to someone. He had just jumped off the diving board. The teacher or baby-sitter, I’m not sure which only that he called her Miss … something, asked him if he had dove off of a diving board before.

“Nope!” the boy answered proudly.

“Well, you’re very good at it!” Miss Something said.

“Well,” the boy said, “sometimes I just think about doing something, and then I’m just good at it!”
