Yes, you read that right. Today is the day that you can walk in to nearly any comic book store and receive one, or many, (depending on the store owner) free comic(s)!
This day always excites me, but I’m excited even more this year because I have to drive to Denver early morning anyway for Kat’s ‘Appointment Ceremony’ into People to People. This is the ceremony that will make her an official Student Ambassador for the United States to represent the country this year to Australia! We’ll get to hear a real U.S. Ambassador speak and celebrate this great honor.

It’s Fatherhood Friday once again, and I’ll get right down to business. I would like to take this heightened traffic opportunity to once again ask for your help.
We just recently found out that Kat needs to finish raising the money for her People to People delegation to Australia by May 14th! If you are able, please make a donation of any comfortable amount by clicking on the Chip-In button to the right of this page. Kat and my wife are working on hand drawn thank you cards that will be sent to you from Australia, time allowing, or when she gets home. If you’ve already donated, you’re already on our mailing list!

For those of you that are just tuning in, or Googled ’spiritual enlightenment’ and somehow wound up here, let me assure you that Sunday Sermons here at Howefitz Blog are anything but sermons. Here I explore matters of the spirit in a way that, I hope, inspires thought within others. I am not here to tell you what to believe, and any viewpoint is welcome…
Since starting to write these ‘Sunday Sermons’ I’ve been told that I do a great job of ‘disagreeing respectfully’. In this post I would like you to focus more on the respect than the disagreement. I was raised Christian and find that the teachings of Jesus Christ can do a lot for a person.

As I sit down and begin to type, it’s 5am. I don’t have to be at work for 3 hours. What in God’s name am I doing awake at this forsaken hour?
Blogging.
Why? What’s so important that I feel I should set my alarm and get ready for work early so that I can sit at the computer and write about my family and my life?
I find it soothing. It relaxes me. If I don’t get to do this, I feel like I might explode.
Crazy, huh?

What do they say about what the road to Hell is paved with? I had every good intention to knock out a very thought provoking ‘Sunday Sermon‘ today, but I didn’t get all of my research done. In keeping with one of my New Year’s Resolutions, if I can’t post the best entry ever, I won’t. Hopefully I get my act together next week and post something great…

Today’s kids are spoiled. They can have cartoons 24-7, on demand, no questions asked. Here at Howefitz Blog, I’d like to start a tradition of making Saturday morning an event again. Cartoons belong on Saturday morning!
Please excuse the crudeness of the above comic. When inspiration strikes, I have to get it down on paper. Since discovering the blogging lifestyle, I now feel like I should share everything online…
If you follow me on twitter, you’ve probably picked up on the fact that I’ve been geeking out on my favorite webcomic, Hijinks Ensue. In fact, I went back to the beginning earlier in the week, and got to the end late last night.

While playing at the park yesterday, Calli found a couple of girls to play with. They were a little bit older, but they quickly worked her in to their play. Their mother and I gave each other the non-committal, slightly weary hello nod customary of adults.
This park has a smaller playground for younger kids, and a larger one for big kids. As the trio of girls crossed from one playground to the other, Calli stopped in front of her playmates’ mother and said, ‘Hi! My name is Calli, and I am your friend!’

The past couple weeks were crazy. (Aren’t they all?) But I did manage to find a little time to sit with the family in front of the magic picture box and catch up on some recent family entertainment. I realize that these reviews are not timely, and everyone saw these films before I did. But that’s not going to stop me from trying to have a conversation about them now…
Where The Wild Things Are

I had planned on continuing my Sunday Sermons today, but today happens to be my beautiful bride’s birthday, so I’d like to tell you a bit more about her…
Thomas Edison said that Genius is 1% inspiration, and 99% perspiration. My wife is both of these personified. Although, if you look at me and my life, she adds a lot more than 1% inspiration.

It’s been a month since my last post on my 21 Day No Complaints, No Excuses experiment, so I thought you might like an update.
According to the ticker on my desktop that I got from acomplaintfreeworld.org, I’ve gone ten days now without complaining or making an excuse. That’s my longest record yet. (Remember, it takes 21 days to form a habit, I’m nearly half-way there!) How am I doing it? By redefining what a complaint is.
Here are some things that I’ve thought about when it comes to defining what a complaint really is. Much of this has come from feedback here, on twitter, and facebook…
